Internet Acceptable Use Policy
- Stay On-Task. This means visit only web sites that are explicitly listed in the assignment at hand or behaviors that are implicitly related to completing the assignment.
- Examples of On-Task behaviors include:
- Visiting assignment-related web sites
- Using a word processor for work related to the assignment
- Managing your own files on a disk or server
- Using a search engine to research information related to the assignment
- Off-Task behaviors will be treated according to the consequences we have determined appropriate.
- Examples of Off-Task behaviors include:
- Vandalizing or damaging machines or hardware
- Emailing a friend
- Checking basketball scores
- Tampering with the computer system configuration
- Tampering with other students files
- Installing peer-to-peer software
- Instant messaging
- Occasionally, even if you are On-Task, you may encounter some unexpected information.
- The following is a list of what you may encounter and the appropriate way to react.
- Pornographic material --> Exit immediately, and come tell me what link "accidentally" loaded this site. Otherwise I will assume you loaded the site intentionally.
- An application tries to install --> You do not have permission to install software. Refuse the installation or get help from me.
- Misuse of computers may result in:
- Receive a "0" for the assignment
- Temporary or extended loss of computer privileges
- Contacting parents or guardians
- Conference with Parent (or guardian), teacher and student
- Fees for fixing or replacing damaged equipment
- In-school or after-school detention
- Suspension from school
- Possible legal action
